# How to view a driver's route on the map in Dumpster Controls

The route view draws one driver’s day on Google Maps: numbered stops, drive times, arrival estimates, and the truck’s live position. Lines are drawn as simple curved arrows by default; a toggle switches to real street routing.

## Before you start

- The driver has at least one stop assigned for the selected day.
- Your company HQ address is set in company settings (the route starts from HQ).

1. ## Open the route
Click anywhere on the driver’s block in their lane (name, avatar, time chips or progress bar). The map panel switches to that driver’s route with a side list of stops. Clicking the same driver again returns to the general map.
2. ## Read the header
The panel header shows the driver, stop count, the estimated day length (drive time plus 10 minutes per stop), a projected finish time, and total miles. Completed stops add a green realized-time counter.
3. ## Choose the line style
The "Map lines" toggle in the panel offers "Simple" (default: curved arrows between numbered pins, out-and-back trips curve to opposite sides so they never overlap) and "Streets" (the real road path). Your choice is remembered.
4. ## Follow the sequence
The list starts with "Start · HQ" ("Truck departs here") and numbers every stop. Each pending stop shows "Drive {min} min", "{min} min on-site", and "arrive ~{time}". Completed stops show "done in" with their actual duration.
5. ## Watch the truck
The driver's truck appears as a live marker that updates while the map is open. If the last position is old, the marker grays out with the note "Last position over 5 min ago".
6. ## Interact with stops
Click a stop in the list or a numbered pin on the map to focus it; clicking also opens the task details. Customer phone numbers in the list are tap-to-call.
7. ## Go back
Click "General map" to return to the company-wide view.

## What happens next

- Completed stops disappear from the map as pins but their route legs stay, dimmed, so you see what is done versus what remains.
- Landfill stops without a chosen destination show "Location TBD" in the list until you use "Set landfill".

## Troubleshooting

### There is no truck marker.

The driver's app has not reported a recent location. The marker appears when live location data exists for that driver.

### Times look like rough estimates.

When Google street routing is unavailable, the map falls back to straight-line estimates. It upgrades to real driving times automatically when routing succeeds.

## Frequently asked questions

### Is Dumpster Controls really free?

Yes. The software is free: dispatch, online booking, the driver app, invoicing, the Tresha AI assistant and every other feature, with no monthly fee, no trial period and no credit card to sign up. The only cost on the free plan is optional card processing when a customer pays by card through the platform: 2.99% plus $3.99 per transaction on the free plan. An optional Unlimited plan at $169 per month lowers that to 2.99% plus $0.30. Prices as published on dumpstercontrols.io/pricing on 2026-09-23.

### Do you charge per driver, per truck or per order?

No. There is no per-driver, per-truck, per-user or per-order fee, and no order limit. A company with one truck and a company with twenty pay the same for the software: nothing.

### Is there a contract?

No. There is no contract, no minimum term and no setup fee. You create the account yourself, and on the free plan there is nothing to cancel because nothing is billed. The optional Unlimited plan is billed month to month.

### Which countries and languages are supported?

Dumpster Controls serves hauling companies in the United States and Canada. The app interface and the Tresha AI assistant are available in English, Spanish and Portuguese. The public pages, such as the blog, the help center and the landfill finder, are in English.

### How do I switch from another dumpster software?

Create a free account at dumpstercontrols.io/login, with no sales call and no credit card. Then import your customers from a CSV file using the template provided in the app; past orders can also be imported from a CSV. Container sizes and pricing are set up in Settings. The landfill database, with 1,750 active US and Canadian landfills as counted on 2026-10-01, is already loaded, so disposal sites do not need to be typed in. Step-by-step guides are at dumpstercontrols.io/help.
