# How to adjust a junk load from the Driver App in Dumpster Controls

Drivers can change the load on site, from the junk job's task sheet or the tablet, with the same "Adjust load" dialog the office uses. Lowering the load from the app has two extra rules: one step at a time, and a photo is required.

## Before you start

- You are the driver assigned to the junk job
- The job was booked and paid online, or created by your office and not paid yet
- If you don't see "Adjust load" after "I've Arrived", update the Driver App to the latest version.

1. ## Arrive at the job
Open the junk task and tap "On My Way", then "I've Arrived". After arrival, an "Adjust load" button appears in the task sheet.
2. ## Open Adjust load
Tap "Adjust load". The dialog shows the load the customer booked and paid and the options for each load.
3. ## More than booked: send the request
Pick the bigger load, add a photo with "Take photo" if you can (the customer sees it), and tap "Send request for $X". The customer gets a link to approve and pay the difference. Take only what was booked until the approval comes in.
4. ## Less than booked: one step, with a photo
Pick the next smaller load, tap "Take photo" to add a photo of the load ("Add a photo of the load to lower it."), then "Refund $Y now". Drivers can lower the load by one step only; for more, the app shows "Drivers can lower the load by one step. Ask the office for more."
5. ## Wait for the answer
When the customer approves and pays or declines, you get a push notification: "Load change approved" (take the bigger load) or "Load change declined" (take only what was booked).

## What happens next

- Photos over 10 MB are refused ("The photo is larger than 10 MB.").
- The office sees every change in the "Adjustments" history of the job.

## Troubleshooting

### The job was created by the office.

On a job the office created that is not paid yet, "Adjust load" shows each load with its new total. Pick the load, add a photo and tap "Update to $X". The customer pays the new total with the same link. See "How to change the load on a junk job you created".

### "You do not have permission to adjust this job."

Only the driver assigned to the job, or the office, can adjust it. Ask the office to assign the job to you.

## Frequently asked questions

### Is Dumpster Controls really free?

Yes. The software is free: dispatch, online booking, the driver app, invoicing, the Tresha AI assistant and every other feature, with no monthly fee, no trial period and no credit card to sign up. The only cost on the free plan is optional card processing when a customer pays by card through the platform: 2.99% plus $3.99 per transaction on the free plan. An optional Unlimited plan at $169 per month lowers that to 2.99% plus $0.30. Prices as published on dumpstercontrols.io/pricing on 2026-09-23.

### Do you charge per driver, per truck or per order?

No. There is no per-driver, per-truck, per-user or per-order fee, and no order limit. A company with one truck and a company with twenty pay the same for the software: nothing.

### Is there a contract?

No. There is no contract, no minimum term and no setup fee. You create the account yourself, and on the free plan there is nothing to cancel because nothing is billed. The optional Unlimited plan is billed month to month.

### Which countries and languages are supported?

Dumpster Controls serves hauling companies in the United States and Canada. The app interface and the Tresha AI assistant are available in English, Spanish and Portuguese. The public pages, such as the blog, the help center and the landfill finder, are in English.

### How do I switch from another dumpster software?

Create a free account at dumpstercontrols.io/login, with no sales call and no credit card. Then import your customers from a CSV file using the template provided in the app; past orders can also be imported from a CSV. Container sizes and pricing are set up in Settings. The landfill database, with 1,750 active US and Canadian landfills as counted on 2026-10-01, is already loaded, so disposal sites do not need to be typed in. Step-by-step guides are at dumpstercontrols.io/help.
