# How to cancel an online junk removal job and refund the customer in Dumpster Controls

"Cancel Job" cancels a junk job and refunds what the customer paid by card online. It is the Decline for junk jobs, and it also handles a job with a load change.

## Before you start

- An owner, admin or supervisor account
- The job is not completed or already canceled

1. ## Open Cancel Job
In "Operations", open the "Junk Removal" card, find the job, open its three-dot menu and click "Cancel Job". The dialog is titled "Cancel Junk Job" and warns "This action is irreversible": the job is removed from Dispatch and marked as canceled.
2. ## Review the refund
For a job paid by card, "Refund (net of processing fees)" shows "Original charge", the Dumpster Controls fee and "Customer receives". Stripe and Dumpster Controls do not return their processing fees on refunds, so they are deducted from the amount returned. In Canada, the customer is refunded in full. Cash jobs show "Cash Payment" and unpaid jobs "No Payment Made".
3. ## Confirm
Tick "I understand this cancellation is permanent and irreversible." and click "Continue". On "Final Confirmation", tick "Yes, I confirm. Cancel this junk job now." and click "Confirm Cancellation". A toast confirms "Junk Job Canceled" with the amount refunded.

## What happens next

- With a load change on the job, every card payment is refunded: the booking and the paid difference (in the United States, each minus its own processing fee). A difference the customer has not paid yet is canceled first, so they can't pay it in the middle of the cancellation.
- When texts are on for your company, the customer gets a text and an email saying the job was canceled and that any refund goes back to their card in 5 to 10 business days.
- "Delete Junk Job" is blocked for jobs paid online or with a load change: the app shows that the job was paid online through Stripe and to use Decline ("Cancel Job") to refund it.

## Troubleshooting

### "A load adjustment on this job is still being processed. Try again in a few minutes."

A refund for a smaller load is still going through. Wait a few minutes and try again.

### "The customer is paying a load adjustment right now. Try again in a minute."

The customer is in the middle of paying a load change. Wait a minute; the cancellation will then refund that payment too.

### "The payout for this job was already sent to your account, so it can't be refunded from here."

Once the payout for the job is sent, the refund can't be made from this dialog. Contact support.

## Frequently asked questions

### Is Dumpster Controls really free?

Yes. The software is free: dispatch, online booking, the driver app, invoicing, the Tresha AI assistant and every other feature, with no monthly fee, no trial period and no credit card to sign up. The only cost on the free plan is optional card processing when a customer pays by card through the platform: 2.99% plus $3.99 per transaction on the free plan. An optional Unlimited plan at $169 per month lowers that to 2.99% plus $0.30. Prices as published on dumpstercontrols.io/pricing on 2026-09-23.

### Do you charge per driver, per truck or per order?

No. There is no per-driver, per-truck, per-user or per-order fee, and no order limit. A company with one truck and a company with twenty pay the same for the software: nothing.

### Is there a contract?

No. There is no contract, no minimum term and no setup fee. You create the account yourself, and on the free plan there is nothing to cancel because nothing is billed. The optional Unlimited plan is billed month to month.

### Which countries and languages are supported?

Dumpster Controls serves hauling companies in the United States and Canada. The app interface and the Tresha AI assistant are available in English, Spanish and Portuguese. The public pages, such as the blog, the help center and the landfill finder, are in English.

### How do I switch from another dumpster software?

Create a free account at dumpstercontrols.io/login, with no sales call and no credit card. Then import your customers from a CSV file using the template provided in the app; past orders can also be imported from a CSV. Container sizes and pricing are set up in Settings. The landfill database, with 1,750 active US and Canadian landfills as counted on 2026-10-01, is already loaded, so disposal sites do not need to be typed in. Step-by-step guides are at dumpstercontrols.io/help.
