# How to chat with booking page visitors in Dumpster Controls

Visitors can send you a message from your booking page before they buy. Messages arrive in your Messages inbox, and your office is alerted by push, text message and email, so nobody has to watch the screen all day. You can also turn the chat off.

## Before you start

- An admin account with access to the Online Booking section
- A phone number on your user profile if you want the text message alert

1. ## Visitor starts a chat
The visitor clicks "Chat With Us" on the paused screen of your dumpster booking page, or the chat button on your junk removal booking page, enters "Your name *" and "Your email *", and clicks "Start Chat". They can then type messages in the "Type a message..." field.
2. ## Get alerted
When a visitor writes, your office gets a push notification, and the owners, admins, supervisors and dispatchers get a text message and an email with a link that opens the conversation. Text and email go out once per conversation, and again only if the visitor keeps writing 30 minutes later. For safety, the alert never repeats what the visitor wrote: you read the message inside the app.
3. ## Reply from Messages
The conversation appears in your "Messages" area as a booking chat conversation, identified by the visitor's name and email. Reply there like any other conversation. The visitor sees your reply on the booking page and also gets it by email.
4. ## Choose your alerts
Each person chooses their own alerts. Open Account, then "Notifications", and use the switches "Booking page chat, by email" and "Booking page chat, by text message".
5. ## Turn the chat off
If you prefer phone calls only, open "Online Booking", go to the "Advanced" tab and turn off the switch under "Chat on your booking page". The chat button disappears from your booking pages and no new chat messages come in. Your phone number stays visible.
6. ## Delete a conversation
Open the conversation in Messages and click "Delete conversation" at the top. It leaves the list for everyone in your office. If the customer writes again, the conversation comes back.

## What happens next

- You captured the visitor's name and email even if they do not finish the booking, so you can follow up.

## Troubleshooting

### I did not get the text message.

Check that your user profile has a mobile number and that "Booking page chat, by text message" is on in Account, Notifications. If you ever replied STOP to a Dumpster Controls text, your number is blocked for every text from the platform. Text and email alerts are also limited per day to protect you from spam; the push notification and the message in Messages always arrive.

### The visitor says nobody answered.

Booking page chat is answered by your team in Messages; it is not automated. Keep the alerts on so you know when someone writes, or turn the chat off and let visitors call instead.

### I only want to delete one message, not the whole conversation.

You can delete a message you sent yourself from its menu. Messages written by the customer cannot be deleted one by one; delete the conversation instead.

## Frequently asked questions

### Is Dumpster Controls really free?

Yes. The entire app is free for any company at any fleet size: dispatch, online booking, the driver app, invoicing, the Tresha AI assistant and every other feature, with no monthly fee, no trial period and no credit card to sign up. The only cost on the free plan is optional card processing when a customer pays by card through the platform: 2.99% plus $3.99 per transaction on the free plan. The entire app is free; an optional $169 per month plan lowers that to 2.99% plus $0.30 and adds a Sponsored spotlight in the public company directory. Prices as published on dumpstercontrols.io/pricing on 2026-09-23.

### Do you charge per driver, per truck or per order?

No. There is no per-driver, per-truck, per-user or per-order fee, and no order limit. A company with one truck and a company with twenty pay the same for the software: nothing.

### Is there a contract?

No. There is no contract, no minimum term and no setup fee. You create the account yourself, and on the free plan there is nothing to cancel because nothing is billed. The optional $169 lower card rate plan is billed month to month.

### Which countries and languages are supported?

Dumpster Controls serves hauling companies in the United States and Canada. The app interface and the Tresha AI assistant are available in English, Spanish and Portuguese. The public pages, such as the blog, the help center and the landfill finder, are in English.

### How do I switch from another dumpster software?

Create a free account at dumpstercontrols.io/login, with no sales call and no credit card. Then import your customers from a CSV file using the template provided in the app; past orders can also be imported from a CSV. Container sizes and pricing are set up in Settings. The landfill database, with 1,750 active US and Canadian landfills as counted on 2026-10-23, is already loaded, so disposal sites do not need to be typed in.
