How to import a bank statement with AI in Dumpster Controls

No bank connection? Upload a statement PDF and the app's AI extracts every transaction for review before anything is saved: "Import Statement with AI".

    Before you start

    • A credit card or bank statement as a PDF (max 4.5MB, clear non-scanned PDFs work best).
    1. 1

      Open the importer

On the Reconciliation page, click "Import Statement". The dialog says: upload a credit card or bank statement PDF and AI will extract all transactions automatically.

    2. 2

      Upload the PDF

Drag the file onto "Drop your statement PDF here" or click to browse. Supported statements include Amex, Chase, Capital One, Visa, Mastercard, Bank of America, Wells Fargo, and Citi. While processing you see "AI is reading your statement" (usually 10 to 30 seconds).

    3. 3

      Review the transactions

The review screen shows the institution, card or account, statement period, and a table with Date, Description, Amount, and Type. Every transaction is selected by default; uncheck any you do not want.

    4. 4

      Import

Click the "Import ... Transactions" button. On success you see "Statement imported!" and can "Import Another" or click "Done".

    What happens next

    • The transactions land in your Reconciliation feed as unmatched, ready to categorize and match. If the statement's last 4 digits match a linked account, they are tagged to that account automatically.

    Troubleshooting

It says "Could not read statement".

The AI could not parse the file. Try a clearer, text-based (non-scanned) PDF, and check the 4.5MB size limit.
