How to settle Crew Pay with Mark as paid
Crew Pay shows what you owe each driver for a period, itemized from real work. Mark as paid records the payment in your books; no money moves, you keep paying your crew the way you always do (Zelle, check, cash, or a bank transfer).
Before you start
- Open Finances, click the "Expenses" pill, then the "Crew Pay" tab.
- Pay rates set for the driver (see the rates article).
- A paid plan to settle; the free plan shows the current period preview.
- ## Pick the period
Choose "This week", "Last week", or "This month". Each driver's row shows the jobs and hours counted and the total due. - ## Check the breakdown
Click the row to expand it: deliveries, pickups, swaps, landfill runs, junk jobs, hours (breaks are subtracted), commission, and flat pay, plus the amount attributed to each order or job. - ## Mark as paid
Click "Mark as paid", pick how you paid (Cash, Check, Zelle, Bank transfer, Other), add an optional note, and confirm. The app recalculates on the server and records everything at once: per-service and commission amounts become a labor cost on each order (so the driver shows up in that order's P&L), and hours plus flat pay become one general labor expense with the driver's name. - ## Undo if needed
A settled row shows a green "Paid" badge with the method. The undo button removes the settlement and every entry it created; then you can fix rates and settle again. A period that is already settled cannot be paid twice.
What happens next
- The recorded amounts appear in the Expenses tab, in Job costs, in each order's P&L, and flow to QuickBooks if you use the integration.
- Taxes, withholdings and pay stubs stay with your accountant's payroll tool; Dumpster Controls calculates and records, it does not process payroll.
Troubleshooting
It says the period requires a paid plan.
On the free plan you can preview the current period. Reviewing and settling past weeks and months is part of the paid plan.
It says there is nothing due.
The total for the period is zero: either no completed work fell in the period or no rate applies to it. Check the rates and the period.

Frequently asked questions
Is Dumpster Controls really free?
Yes. The software is free: dispatch, online booking, the driver app, invoicing, the Tresha AI assistant and every other feature, with no monthly fee, no trial period and no credit card to sign up. The only cost on the free plan is optional card processing when a customer pays by card through the platform: 2.99% plus $3.99 per transaction on the free plan. An optional Unlimited plan at $169 per month lowers that to 2.99% plus $0.30. Prices as published on dumpstercontrols.io/pricing on 2026-09-23.
Do you charge per driver, per truck or per order?
No. There is no per-driver, per-truck, per-user or per-order fee, and no order limit. A company with one truck and a company with twenty pay the same for the software: nothing.
Is there a contract?
No. There is no contract, no minimum term and no setup fee. You create the account yourself, and on the free plan there is nothing to cancel because nothing is billed. The optional Unlimited plan is billed month to month.
Which countries and languages are supported?
Dumpster Controls serves hauling companies in the United States and Canada. The app interface and the Tresha AI assistant are available in English, Spanish and Portuguese. The public pages, such as the blog, the help center and the landfill finder, are in English.
How do I switch from another dumpster software?
Create a free account at dumpstercontrols.io/login, with no sales call and no credit card. Then import your customers from a CSV file using the template provided in the app; past orders can also be imported from a CSV. Container sizes and pricing are set up in Settings. The landfill database, with 1,750 active US and Canadian landfills as counted on 2026-10-01, is already loaded, so disposal sites do not need to be typed in. Step-by-step guides are at dumpstercontrols.io/help.
