How to change the load on a junk job you created in Dumpster Controls
When the crew finds more (or less) on site on a junk job your office created, and the customer hasn't paid yet, "Adjust load" changes the load and the price. The job, the invoice and the payment link move to the new total, and the customer can get a text and an email with the new amount.
Before you start
- A junk job created in the app (not booked online) that is not paid yet
- An owner, admin, supervisor or dispatcher account, or the driver assigned to the job
- Load prices set in Junk Removal Pricing
- ## Open Adjust load
In the office, open the job drawer and click "Adjust load" in "Payment Summary". In the Driver App, the button appears in the task after "I've Arrived". On the tablet, it appears under the job's buttons after arrival. - ## Pick the new load
The dialog shows the current load and price, for example "Now: 1/4 load, $210.00". Each load shows its new total and the difference, such as "$630.00 (+$420.00)". The difference comes from your load prices, so a lower price set on the job, or a price typed by hand, stays in place. - ## Office only: type a different total
Click "Type a different total", choose the load and type the new total. Drivers always use your load prices. - ## Add a photo
You can add a photo of the load with "Take photo". To lower the load, drivers must add a photo and can go down one size only, counted from the load before the first change. For more, the office makes the change. - ## Tell the customer
When the invoice has an online payment link and the customer has a phone or email on file, leave "Text and email the customer the new total and the payment link" checked. The customer gets a "Load updated" message with the new amount and the same "View & Pay" link. - ## Confirm
Click "Update to $X". The dialog confirms "Load updated. New total: $X." and lists the change under "Adjustments".
What happens next
- The invoice gets a line "Load adjustment: 1/4 load to 3/4 load" with the difference, and the job shows the new load and price.
- Payment links for the old amount stop working, so the customer can only pay the new total. The link in texts and on the invoice page keeps working and shows the new amount.
- Payment reminders continue with the new total.
- The office can also change a completed job that is not paid yet. Drivers can change it only while the job is open.
Troubleshooting
"This job is already paid."
This version of "Adjust load" is for jobs that are not paid yet. To bill the difference on a paid job, use "Charge Extra Fee" in Order History. For junk jobs it sends an invoice without an online payment link, so collect it the usual way.
"The invoice was edited by hand (discount, tax or lines). Update the invoice instead."
The invoice no longer matches the job's price, so the app won't change it on its own. Edit the invoice itself.
"This job's invoice was created before this feature. Update the invoice instead."
Older jobs have an invoice linked by number only. Edit the invoice itself.
"The customer just paid the current amount."
The customer paid while you were changing the load. Close and open the job again: it shows as paid.
I don't see "Adjust load" in the Driver App.
Update the Driver App to the latest version. The button appears only after "I've Arrived", and only on jobs that can still be changed.

Frequently asked questions
Is Dumpster Controls really free?
Yes. The software is free: dispatch, online booking, the driver app, invoicing, the Tresha AI assistant and every other feature, with no monthly fee, no trial period and no credit card to sign up. The only cost on the free plan is optional card processing when a customer pays by card through the platform: 2.99% plus $3.99 per transaction on the free plan. An optional Unlimited plan at $169 per month lowers that to 2.99% plus $0.30. Prices as published on dumpstercontrols.io/pricing on 2026-09-23.
Do you charge per driver, per truck or per order?
No. There is no per-driver, per-truck, per-user or per-order fee, and no order limit. A company with one truck and a company with twenty pay the same for the software: nothing.
Is there a contract?
No. There is no contract, no minimum term and no setup fee. You create the account yourself, and on the free plan there is nothing to cancel because nothing is billed. The optional Unlimited plan is billed month to month.
Which countries and languages are supported?
Dumpster Controls serves hauling companies in the United States and Canada. The app interface and the Tresha AI assistant are available in English, Spanish and Portuguese. The public pages, such as the blog, the help center and the landfill finder, are in English.
How do I switch from another dumpster software?
Create a free account at dumpstercontrols.io/login, with no sales call and no credit card. Then import your customers from a CSV file using the template provided in the app; past orders can also be imported from a CSV. Container sizes and pricing are set up in Settings. The landfill database, with 1,750 active US and Canadian landfills as counted on 2026-10-01, is already loaded, so disposal sites do not need to be typed in. Step-by-step guides are at dumpstercontrols.io/help.
