How to adjust the load on a junk removal job in Dumpster Controls

When the crew finds more or less than the customer booked online, "Adjust load" changes the load and handles the money: a bigger load sends the customer a link to approve and pay the difference, and a smaller one refunds their card right away.

Before you start

  • A junk job booked and paid online, still scheduled, on site, loading or to landfill
  • An owner, admin, supervisor or dispatcher account, or the driver assigned to the job
  • If you don't see "Adjust load" on an open online junk job, contact support.
  1. ## Open Adjust load
Open the job drawer ("View Details" or "Assign Driver" in the Junk Removal tab). In "Payment Summary", click "Adjust load". The dialog shows "Booked and paid" with the current load.
  2. ## Read the options
Under "Choose the new load", each load with an online price shows what happens: "Customer pays $X more", "Refund $Y", "No charge (under the minimum)", or "Current load". A load shown as "Use Decline instead" or "Not available" can't be chosen.
  3. ## For a bigger load, send the request
Pick the bigger load. You can add a photo of the load with "Take photo"; the customer sees it with the request. Click "Send request for $X". The dialog shows "Request ready" with a link and "Copy". The link is valid for 24 hours or until the job is completed.
  4. ## Get the link to the customer
When texts to junk customers are on for your company, the customer gets the request by text and email automatically. You can also copy the link and send it yourself. Nothing is charged until the customer approves and pays.
  5. ## For a smaller load, refund now
Pick the smaller load and click "Refund $Y now". The difference goes back to the customer's card right away and the dialog confirms "Refunded $Y to the customer's card." If Stripe is still processing, it shows "The refund is being processed. It will finish on its own."
  6. ## Small increases
When the difference is under the minimum charge ($1, or C$1 in Canada), the option reads "No charge (under the minimum)". Click "Apply new load": the load changes and your company absorbs the difference.
  7. ## Follow the history
The "Adjustments" list at the bottom shows each change with its status, such as "Waiting for customer", "Customer is paying", "Paid", "Declined by customer", "Replaced", "Expired" or "Refunded".

What happens next

  • When the customer approves and pays, or declines, your office and the assigned driver get a push notification ("Load change approved" or "Load change declined").
  • Sending a new request for a bigger load replaces the one still waiting for the customer.
  • The new price comes from the price list saved when the customer booked, not from today's prices.

Troubleshooting

"This job already had a load adjustment."

Each job can have one load change that moves money: a paid increase, a refunded decrease, or a no-charge change. Declined and expired requests don't count.

A smaller load shows "Use Decline instead".

The refund would be larger than what your company keeps from the job. Cancel the job with "Cancel Job" and book it again at the right load.

"Only jobs booked online can be adjusted here."

This guide covers jobs booked online. For a job your office created that is not paid yet, the same "Adjust load" button changes the load and the invoice: see "How to change the load on a junk job you created".

"The load was changed by hand, so it can't be adjusted online."

Someone edited the load after the online payment, so the saved prices no longer match the job.

"The payout for this job was already sent, so the load can't be lowered here."

A decrease is only possible before the job's payout goes out. Contact support.

"Another adjustment on this job is still being processed."

A refund or an expiring request is still being settled. Try again in a few minutes.

Frequently asked questions

Is Dumpster Controls really free?

Yes. The software is free: dispatch, online booking, the driver app, invoicing, the Tresha AI assistant and every other feature, with no monthly fee, no trial period and no credit card to sign up. The only cost on the free plan is optional card processing when a customer pays by card through the platform: 2.99% plus $3.99 per transaction on the free plan. An optional Unlimited plan at $169 per month lowers that to 2.99% plus $0.30. Prices as published on dumpstercontrols.io/pricing on 2026-09-23.

Do you charge per driver, per truck or per order?

No. There is no per-driver, per-truck, per-user or per-order fee, and no order limit. A company with one truck and a company with twenty pay the same for the software: nothing.

Is there a contract?

No. There is no contract, no minimum term and no setup fee. You create the account yourself, and on the free plan there is nothing to cancel because nothing is billed. The optional Unlimited plan is billed month to month.

Which countries and languages are supported?

Dumpster Controls serves hauling companies in the United States and Canada. The app interface and the Tresha AI assistant are available in English, Spanish and Portuguese. The public pages, such as the blog, the help center and the landfill finder, are in English.

How do I switch from another dumpster software?

Create a free account at dumpstercontrols.io/login, with no sales call and no credit card. Then import your customers from a CSV file using the template provided in the app; past orders can also be imported from a CSV. Container sizes and pricing are set up in Settings. The landfill database, with 1,750 active US and Canadian landfills as counted on 2026-10-01, is already loaded, so disposal sites do not need to be typed in. Step-by-step guides are at dumpstercontrols.io/help.
