How to create a commercial or broker customer on account

Customers created as "Commercial" or "Broker" are billed on account. The "Create New Customer" modal collects the account terms, and optionally the job sites, prices and documents, in one pass.

  1. ## Open the form
On the Customers page click "New Customer" (the same modal opens from the New Order page). Under "Customer Profile" pick "Commercial" ("Company billed on account: orders go on a periodic statement, paid by check, transfer or ACH.") or "Broker" ("Broker or intermediary. Billed on account: a periodic statement paid by check, transfer or ACH.").
  2. ## Fill the contact, address and company
Fill "Contact Information" ("Full Name" is required), the "Address" and, under "Company Details", the "Company Name" (required for these types).
  3. ## Set the account status and credit limit
The "Commercial account details" section is always open for these types. Choose the "Account status" ("In good standing", "Attention" or "On hold") and, if you want one, a "Credit limit" (leave it empty for "No limit").
  4. ## Set the billing cycle and terms
In "Billing cycle and terms" pick how often to bill ("Bill this customer"), how the account pays, the payment terms, and who receives the statement. Hover the info icon next to each item for what it does. See the article on the billing cycle and terms for every option.
  5. ## Fill the billing contacts
Below the box, "Billing Email", "AP Contact Name" and "AP Contact Phone" help your office reach accounts payable. "Net Terms" ("Payment Terms" for brokers) fills the payment terms in days until you change that field yourself, and "PO Required" makes a PO number mandatory on every order. Brokers also have "Broker License Number (optional)", "Commission %", "Default Markup %" and "Commission Agreement".
  6. ## Add job sites, prices and documents (optional)
The last section, "Job sites, prices and documents", lets you add them now: "Add them now and they are saved together with the customer. You can change everything later in the customer drawer, Account tab."
  7. ## Save
Click "Save Customer". The toast "Customer created" confirms it.

What happens next

  • The customer drawer now has an "Account" tab with the terms, and a "Statements" tab in place of "Invoices".
  • If "Statement recipients" is left empty, the statement goes to the "Billing Email", or to the customer's "Email" when there is no billing email.

Troubleshooting

The customer was saved but some sites, prices or documents are missing.

The app says so: "The customer was saved, but part of the job sites, prices or documents could not be saved. Open the customer drawer, Account tab, and add what is missing."

"Card online (Stripe)" is greyed out.

It reads "Card online (Stripe) (needs Stripe)" until your Stripe account is connected and approved for payouts. Check, ACH or bank transfer, wire, Zelle and Other are always available.

Frequently asked questions

Is Dumpster Controls really free?

Yes. The software is free: dispatch, online booking, the driver app, invoicing, the Tresha AI assistant and every other feature, with no monthly fee, no trial period and no credit card to sign up. The only cost on the free plan is optional card processing when a customer pays by card through the platform: 2.99% plus $3.99 per transaction on the free plan. An optional Unlimited plan at $169 per month lowers that to 2.99% plus $0.30. Prices as published on dumpstercontrols.io/pricing on 2026-09-23.

Do you charge per driver, per truck or per order?

No. There is no per-driver, per-truck, per-user or per-order fee, and no order limit. A company with one truck and a company with twenty pay the same for the software: nothing.

Is there a contract?

No. There is no contract, no minimum term and no setup fee. You create the account yourself, and on the free plan there is nothing to cancel because nothing is billed. The optional Unlimited plan is billed month to month.

Which countries and languages are supported?

Dumpster Controls serves hauling companies in the United States and Canada. The app interface and the Tresha AI assistant are available in English, Spanish and Portuguese. The public pages, such as the blog, the help center and the landfill finder, are in English.

How do I switch from another dumpster software?

Create a free account at dumpstercontrols.io/login, with no sales call and no credit card. Then import your customers from a CSV file using the template provided in the app; past orders can also be imported from a CSV. Container sizes and pricing are set up in Settings. The landfill database, with 1,750 active US and Canadian landfills as counted on 2026-10-01, is already loaded, so disposal sites do not need to be typed in. Step-by-step guides are at dumpstercontrols.io/help.
