How to assign a task with drag-and-drop in Dumpster Controls

On desktop, the fastest way to build routes is dragging cards from the "Unassigned Tasks" pool into driver lanes.

    Before you start

    • A desktop or laptop browser (drag-and-drop is disabled on mobile; use the "Assign" button there).
    • At least one active driver with a lane on the board.
    1. 1

      Pick the dispatch day

Use the date navigator in the top bar so you are assigning onto the correct day. The lane header confirms it under "Assigned for".

    2. 2

Grab a card from the pool

Click and hold any card in "Unassigned Tasks" and drag it over a driver's lane. The lane highlights while you hover.

    3. 3

      Drop it in position

Drop the card exactly where it should run in the driver's day. The position you drop at becomes the stop's sequence number.

    4. 4

      Wait for the save

A "Saving..." chip appears at the bottom while the change is written. The board stays usable, but one drag is saved at a time.

    What happens next

    • The task status changes from "Pending" to "Assigned" and, if it had no driver before, its date moves to the selected board day.
    • The driver receives a "Task Assigned" push notification with the address; order tasks also send the driver an SMS.
    • You can also drag between driver lanes to reassign, or back to "Unassigned Tasks" to unassign.

    Troubleshooting

I get "Task is in progress. Cannot reassign".

The driver already started that stop. In route tasks cannot be moved.

I get "Completed task cannot be moved".

Completed tasks are history; they stay where they finished.

The card snaps back and nothing happens.

Another drag was still saving. Wait for the "Saving..." chip to disappear and try again.
