A tablet mounted in the cab turns Dumpster Controls into a permanent truck terminal: the day, the map and the shift clock always on, with no phone to hand around. Here is how to get one running.
Search for "Dumpster Controls" in the App Store or Google Play and install it, exactly as you would on a phone. There is no separate tablet app: the same app detects the screen size and opens the cockpit layout.
In the office app go to Trucks and open the "Set up a tablet" wizard. It walks through pairing and shows the pairing code the tablet needs.
On the tablet, enter the pairing code. The device is now registered to the company, not to a person, which is what allows drivers to switch on it with a PIN.
In the office app open each driver and set a 4 digit PIN, or ask the driver to set their own from the driver Profile screen. Office users must set their own PIN: for security, nobody can set a PIN for an office account and then use it.
Put the tablet within arm's reach in landscape orientation. The cockpit assumes landscape: the day list on the left, the map on the right, and the rail on the far left where the hand naturally lands.
The screen stays awake while a route is running, which is what you want in a truck and what drains a battery. A hard wired charger avoids the tablet dying on a long route.
The cockpit turns on by screen size and orientation. Rotate the tablet to landscape and make sure the browser or app is full screen. Very small tablets in portrait are treated as phones on purpose, because the two panel layout does not fit.
Codes expire. Reopen the "Set up a tablet" wizard in the office app to generate a fresh one, and check that the tablet has a connection while pairing.
