How card disputes (chargebacks) are handled in Dumpster Controls

When a cardholder disputes a payment, the card network takes the money back first and asks questions later. This article explains exactly what happens in Dumpster Controls when a dispute hits one of your orders: what you see, what we do, what we need from you, the deadlines, and an honest view of the odds.

    1. 1

You are alerted from the start

A red alert appears at the top of your notification bell, the affected order shows a red dispute banner in Rental History, and if the paid-out amount is reversed you also receive a push notification at that moment. Nothing about the process is hidden from you.

    2. 2

We build the defense from your operational records

Our team compiles the evidence your drivers already produced: GPS and date stamped delivery, pickup and landfill photos, the full task timeline, the booking details and payment verification data. That dossier is submitted to the card network on your behalf.

    3. 3

Send anything extra that helps, before the deadline

The dispute banner shows the evidence deadline when there is one, and the "Send evidence via support ticket" button opens a pre-filled ticket where you can attach signed contracts, text messages with the customer, or anything proving the rental was legitimate. The earlier you send it, the stronger the response.

    4. 4

What happens to the payout while the dispute runs

The disputed amount is taken from the platform by the card network on day one. When the payout for that order was already sent to you, it is reversed from your Stripe balance while the dispute is open, and this is shown transparently in the order banner. If the dispute is WON, the full amount is returned to you.

    5. 5

      The honest odds

When the dispute reason is a stolen card (true fraud), banks side with the cardholder in the large majority of cases, even with perfect delivery proof, because the cardholder genuinely never authorized the charge. We fight every dispute anyway: some are won, and the record also documents scam patterns that improve everyone's protection. But prevention beats disputes every time, which is why the fraud screening and the early warning alerts exist.

    What happens next

    • Bank review of a dispute commonly takes 2 to 3 months. The order banner is updated when the bank's decision arrives.

    Troubleshooting

Why was my payout reversed before the dispute was decided?

Card networks debit the disputed amount immediately at the start of a dispute; that cost has to sit somewhere while the case runs. Reversing the payout mirrors that reality transparently, and the full amount comes back to you if the dispute is won.

Can I talk to someone about a dispute on my account?

Yes. Open a support ticket from the dispute banner on the order, or from Account then Support. Tickets are answered within 24 hours on every plan.
