How to swap a dumpster mid-rental in Dumpster Controls

When a full can needs to be exchanged for an empty one (same size or different), the "Swap Dumpster" flow creates the replacement delivery in seconds, linked to the pickup.

Before you start

• The order is in the "Pickups" tab (the dumpster is at the customer site).

1. Start the swap

   On the pickup card, click "Swap" (tooltip: "Swap Dumpster", "Customer needs an additional or replacement dumpster"). The "Swap Dumpster" dialog opens: "Create a new delivery for when the customer needs an additional or replacement dumpster".

2. Choose how it gets paid

   Pick "Electronic (Stripe)" to send an invoice and payment link, or "Cash" for no electronic invoice. Without Stripe connected, the swap is cash-only.

3. Set "Delivery & Pickup Dates"

   Choose the "Delivery Date" for the new can; the "Pickup Date" auto-fills to match the original rental length and stays editable. The dialog shows "Rental period:" in days and flags when it differs from the original.

4. Answer "What size does the customer need?"

   "Same size" inherits the original pricing exactly ("Price adjusts automatically"), with every field editable for a custom swap price. "Different size" lets you pick another size; the price auto-fills from that size and the rental duration.

5. Create it

   Click the confirm button. A toast reads "Swap Order Created" with the new order number, size, rental days, and whether the invoice and payment link were sent.

What happens next

• A brand-new delivery order is created and its delivery task inherits the driver already assigned to the original pickup, so one trip handles drop and collection.
• The two tasks are linked as swap peers; swap orders carry a swap badge in the operations lists.
• For electronic swaps, the invoice goes out with a payment link and automatic reminders, just like a normal order.

Troubleshooting

The confirm button is disabled.

A "Delivery Date" is required (without it no delivery task can be created), and "Different size" swaps need a size selected with a price above zero.
