How to dispatch a scrap metal pickup to a driver

Scrap tasks live on the same Dispatch board as everything else. What changes is how you recognize them: a "Scrap metal" badge on the card, a diamond pin on the map, and the recycling stop labeled "Scrap yard".

## Find the task on the board
Open Dispatch. Scrap tasks sit in the unassigned pool and on driver lanes like any other task, with a teal "Scrap metal" badge on the card. A pickup only job has a single pickup task; a drop off job has a delivery task first and the pickup later.
## Assign it
Drag the card onto a driver, use the one-click assign, or open the task details and pick the driver. Nothing about assignment is different for scrap.
## Read the map
On the live map a scrap stop is a diamond, while dumpster stops are circles. The pin label is "S" for the scrap pickup or drop off and "SY" for the scrap yard stop. The legend gains a "Business line" block, listing the lines on screen ("Dumpster rental", "Junk removal", "Scrap metal"), once your company has the line on and a non-dumpster stop is on the map.
## Check the driver's side
In the driver app the task sheet shows the "Scrap metal" badge, plus "Pickup only" when there is no container. The company board row and the truck tablet show the same badge, and the recycling stop reads "Scrap yard" everywhere the app would otherwise say "Landfill".
## Follow the load to the scrap yard
After the pickup, the trip to the recycling center shows on the dispatch card as "Scrap yard" and in Operations under "Scrap yard runs". The driver starts, arrives and completes it like any other stop. The destination picker on a scrap order lists only your company's recycling centers, with an "Add a recycling center" button to register a new one on the spot; public landfills are not offered, and a recycling center never appears in the public Landfill Finder.
## Record the scrap yard ticket
At the scrap yard the driver sees the "Scrap yard ticket" form instead of a landfill receipt: "Enter what the scrap yard paid for this load. This is money coming in, not a landfill cost." It asks for the buyer (one of your recycling centers), the "Ticket number", one line per material ("Material", "Weight (lb)", "Amount received") and an optional "Ticket photo". Saving shows "Scrap ticket recorded" and the driver slides to complete the stop; sending it again replaces the first ticket of that stop instead of doubling it. The driver can also complete without a ticket, and the office records it later in Order History on the order's "Scrap Sale" card.

What happens next

The ticket is saved on the order and shows on the "Scrap Sale" card and in the "Load result" of Order History, and in the "Scrap sales" block of Finances and the Dashboard. It stays inside your company unless you include it on a rebate receipt.
Completing a scrap task never creates a payout entry when the order has no charge; there is no money to move.
The driver app installed from the App Store or Google Play is a fixed build: the badges, the "Scrap yard" label and the ticket form are in the web driver app and on the tablet today, not in the store app. Drivers on the store app complete the stop and the office records the ticket in Order History.

Troubleshooting

The map legend does not show "Business line".

The block appears only when at least one non-dumpster stop is visible and your company has Scrap Metal on (or a scrap stop is on the map).

The driver's destination picker is empty on a scrap order.

Your company has no recycling center registered yet. The picker says "No recycling center registered yet. Add one below.": tap "Add a recycling center" and enter its name and address. It is private to your company and shows up on every scrap yard run from then on.

The driver typed the wrong amount on the ticket.

On the same stop, "Record again (replaces this one)" swaps the ticket for a new one. After the stop is done, the office edits the lines or removes the ticket on the order's "Scrap Sale" card in Order History; the lines are kept as deleted, never erased.

Do you charge per driver, per truck or per order?

No. There is no per-driver, per-truck, per-user or per-order fee, and no order limit. A company with one truck and a company with twenty pay the same for the software: nothing.

Is there a contract?

No. There is no contract, no minimum term and no setup fee. You create the account yourself, and on the free plan there is nothing to cancel because nothing is billed. The optional Unlimited plan is billed month to month.

Which countries and languages are supported?

Dumpster Controls serves hauling companies in the United States and Canada. The app interface and the Tresha AI assistant are available in English, Spanish and Portuguese. The public pages, such as the blog, the help center and the landfill finder, are in English.

How do I switch from another dumpster software?

Create a free account at dumpstercontrols.io/login, with no sales call and no credit card. Then import your customers from a CSV file using the template provided in the app; past orders can also be imported from a CSV. Container sizes and pricing are set up in Settings. The landfill database, with 1,750 active US and Canadian landfills as counted on 2026-10-01, is already loaded, so disposal sites do not need to be typed in.
