Dumpster route optimization is the ordering of a truck's day, deliveries, pickups, swaps and landfill runs, so the truck drives fewer empty miles and arrives with the right can on the back. In Dumpster Controls it is the AI Routes button on the dispatch board: it reorders one driver's remaining stops for the shortest day, shows the estimated miles and minutes saved before you apply, and is free for any fleet size, from one truck up.
This is stop-based routing for roll-off and junk work, never residential curbside collection. It is built into our free dumpster rental software, with no per-vehicle fee.

A roll-off truck carries one container at a time. The map draws a solid line when the truck is loaded and a dashed line when it runs empty, derived from the sequence of stops. Nobody types "I am loaded".

What this means for you
- Empty miles are visible on the map, not buried in a fuel bill.
- Each stop shows the truck's transition, such as bobtail to full can, so you can check the sequence is physically possible.
- Impossible sequences get a warning, such as a truck arriving at a delivery with no can on it.

How we make money: only when you opt in, and the numbers are public. The software is free with unlimited orders and no per-order software fee. If you choose to collect a customer’s card payment through Dumpster Controls, the processing fee is 2.99% + $3.99 per card transaction on the free plan, or 2.99% + $0.30 (the standard Stripe rate) on the optional $169/month Unlimited plan. Take payment by cash, check, Zelle or any other way and you pay nothing at all. Beyond that, our revenue comes from the optional Unlimited plan and from equipment partners and sponsors advertising in the app and on our public directory; our marketplace, the Dumpster Net Hub, charges zero marketplace fees. Run your own business your way and you never pay to use the software. It’s the only model that lets a 1-truck owner-operator run on the same software as a 50-truck fleet.

Landfill runs are part of the route
A dump run is a stop with a fee attached. AI Routes places it in the driver's sequence with the rest of the day, and a landfill run that has no landfill chosen yet is drawn with a dashed line and a question mark, so you pin it down before applying.

- The driver's map draws the dump run at the landfill, not at the customer address the task came from.
- At the landfill the app reads the net weight and the cost off the receipt photo, so the run's cost lands on the order.
Dumpster truck routing app vs. Google Maps vs. generic route software
Google Maps optimizes one route at a time and does not know what is on the truck. Generic route software knows stops, not cans: it will happily send an empty truck to a landfill.
