Routeware alternative, 2026
The Routeware alternative at $0/month
Dumpster Controls is a Routeware alternative for independent roll-off dumpster and junk removal companies, at $0 per month with no per-vehicle fee, no contract and no feature paywall: drag-and-drop dispatch, public online booking, a native iOS and Android driver app with Truck Tablet Mode, Stripe invoicing, QuickBooks Online sync, a public API, the Dumpster Net Hub marketplace, a 2,916-landfill database and Tresha, an AI assistant that runs the platform by chat or voice. Routeware is a different category of product: a platform for municipal and large private collection fleets, founded in 2000, sold by demo, whose only public price list is a $2,508 per vehicle per year SmartCity listing on AWS Marketplace (read 2026-09-23). This page says where each one fits.

What Routeware costs
Routeware does not publish pricing on its website (checked 2026-09-07 and again 2026-09-23; URLs tried: the home page, the Elements product page and the roll-off blog post carry no price, the Elements page links to a "Get Pricing" form, and the call to action is "Request a Demo"). Capterra lists "Contact vendor" with no free trial. The one public price list is the RUBICONSmartCity listing on AWS Marketplace, the municipal platform Routeware acquired with Wastech on 2024-08-27 (the listing still names Rubicon as seller; read 2026-09-23): on a 12-month contract, "Rubicon SaaS Platform - p/Vehicle" is $2,508.00 per year, the in-cab "RUBICON X" is $1,782.00 (phone) or $1,584.00 (tablet) per vehicle per year, "RUBICON Y" is $343.20 and "RUBICONVision" cameras are $5,940.00 per vehicle per year, which is about $209 per vehicle per month for the platform alone and more than $700 with cameras. Routeware was founded in 2000, moved its headquarters to Austin, Texas in December 2025, reports "1500 Customers", "88M Residents Covered" and "18,000 Trucks Using Our Tech" on its home page (self-reported, read 2026-09-23), and sells to governments through Sourcewell contract 041521-RCS.
Dumpster Controls takes the opposite approach: the software is free, with unlimited orders and unlimited users, and the only cost is card processing when a customer pays by card, 2.99% + $3.99 per transaction on the free plan, or 2.99% + $0.30 on the optional $169/month Unlimited plan. Pay by cash, check or any other method and there is no fee at all.

Why haulers switch from Routeware
A product sized for one to fifty trucks, not a city
A Routeware reviewer on Capterra writes that "those with only a handful of trucks in their operation should steer away" until the fleet reaches 12 to 15 trucks (read 2026-09-23), and its AWS listing starts at $2,508 per vehicle per year on a 12-month contract. Dumpster Controls is free at one truck and free at fifty, with no contract; the only cost is card processing only when a customer pays by card: 2.99% + $3.99 per transaction on the free plan, or 2.99% + $0.30 on the optional $169/month Unlimited plan.
Roll-off is the whole product, not a blog post
Routeware published a post on 2025-08-18 about what roll-off businesses gain from dumpster rental software, but no roll-off product page was found on its home page or Elements page as of 2026-09-23; its flagships are Elements for collection haulers, SmartCity for governments and ReCollect for residents. Dumpster Controls models delivery, swap, pickup and landfill run as linked tasks, with containers by serial number and overweight fees read from the landfill receipt.
No in-cab hardware to buy
Routeware's AWS listing prices in-cab tablets and phones per vehicle and cameras at $5,940 per vehicle per year. Dumpster Controls runs on the driver's own phone, or on any tablet in Truck Tablet Mode with a PIN per driver, at $0.
Start today without procurement
Routeware's path in is "Request a Demo", a pricing form and, for cities, a cooperative purchasing contract. Dumpster Controls is self-serve: an account in under a minute, no card, no demo, with public online booking, QuickBooks Online sync, a public API and Tresha AI included.
What Routeware offers
In facts from Routeware's own pages, with the date we read each one in the sources below, and next to each one what Dumpster Controls does for the same job.
Municipal contracts
Routeware's SmartCity platform is built for governments, with in-cab tools, cameras and cooperative purchasing through Sourcewell contract 041521-RCS, and Routeware publishes customer stories such as the City of Atlanta. Dumpster Controls is built for private haulers.
Resident engagement for curbside routes
ReCollect gives residents a Collection Calendar, service alerts and a Waste Wizard, per the Sourcewell contract listing, and Routeware reports "2.3B Notifications Sent" on its home page (self-reported, 2026-09-23). Dumpster Controls sends SMS and email updates to each customer automatically from the order.
In-cab cameras and telematics, priced per vehicle
Routeware prices in-cab tablets, phones and Vision cameras per vehicle on AWS Marketplace and lists SmartCity on the Samsara and Geotab marketplaces. Dumpster Controls has no per-vehicle fee and reads driver position from its phone app.
Automatic service verification
Routeware's in-cab page describes "Automatic Service Verification" that records a stop as completed "without driver input", with on-board cameras. Dumpster Controls records each stop with the driver's photo and slide-to-complete.
Cycle billing with autopay
Elements bundles digital billing audits, invoicing, adjustments and "auto-pay functionalities" for collection haulers. Dumpster Controls invoices per order on Stripe and offers commercial accounts with statements.

How we make money: only when you opt in, and the numbers are public. The software is free with unlimited orders and no per-order software fee. If you choose to collect a customer’s card payment through Dumpster Controls, the processing fee is 2.99% + $3.99 per card transaction on the free plan, or 2.99% + $0.30 (the standard Stripe rate) on the optional $169/month Unlimited plan. Take payment by cash, check, Zelle or any other way and you pay nothing at all. Beyond that, our revenue comes from the optional Unlimited plan and from equipment partners and sponsors advertising in the app and on our public directory; our marketplace, the Dumpster Net Hub, charges zero marketplace fees. Run your own business your way and you never pay to use the software. It’s the only model that lets a 1-truck owner-operator run on the same software as a 50-truck fleet.
