What "management" covers, day by day

The morning starts on the Operations page: counters for Deliveries, Pickups, Landfill Runs and Junk Removal, each broken into today, late and tomorrow, refreshed about every 30 seconds. Every active order sits in one of those tabs, and each tab has a drawer to assign a driver, change a date, or mark a step by hand when a driver forgot.

Then Dispatch: an Unassigned Tasks pool on the left and one lane per driver, stops in running order. Drag a card into a lane and the driver gets a push notification and a text. The Map panel draws each route on Google Maps with legs colored by destination, green for delivery, orange for pickup, brown for landfill, solid where the truck carries a can and dashed where it runs empty.

By mid-morning the drivers are in the app: On My Way, I've Arrived, a photo stamped with date, location and company name, slide to complete. On a dump run the driver photographs the landfill receipt and the app reads the net weight and the cost off it, which is how the landfill cost reaches the order without anyone typing it. A swap is two linked tasks, SWAP OUT and SWAP IN, on one stop.

The afternoon is exceptions. An order whose date passed without completion turns red as "late". A customer who finishes early asks for an earlier pickup from the no-login tracking link they got by text, or requests a paid extension priced per day at your rate; both wait for your approval and move nothing by themselves.

The month closes in Finances: net profit as the hero number, then Received, Invoiced, Unpaid and Expenses against the previous period, and Orders P&L with revenue, fees, costs, profit and margin per order. The financial software guide goes through it screen by screen.

The six things a management system has to hold

A spreadsheet can hold any one of these. Companies switch because all six have to point at the same order, and the sixth, money, only works when the first five feed it.

Containers by serial, not by count

Each size carries its pricing, included tonnage, weight limit and overweight fee. Under it, every physical can is a unit row with a serial, a status, a condition and notes, and a unit at a customer site shows the order number under its status, so "where is can 30-07" is answered by the list. Trucks and landfills with the paperwork attached

The Trucks page is the fleet registry, with a Reg / Ins / Odo checklist that shows which truck is missing its insurance file, an oil change reminder, a maintenance log with a Post to Finances shortcut and a monthly mileage chart. The Landfills module lists every disposal site in your state sorted by distance from your yard, with hours, rating and a tipping fee estimate carrying a source badge (Verified, Reported or Unknown); the public side of that database covers 2,916 US landfills under an open license.

Here a rental is one order that carries its own delivery and pickup tasks, its photos grouped by moment (Before Delivery, Delivered, Before Pickup, After Pickup, Landfill Receipt), its payment breakdown and its timeline.
