Commercial Accounts

Bill contractors, builders and brokers on account: orders go on a periodic statement instead of being charged one by one, with job sites, negotiated prices, a credit limit, and payments by check, transfer or ACH.

A commercial account is a customer you bill on account. Their orders are not paid one by one: each order opens an invoice on the account, the invoices build up during the billing cycle, and on the billing day they go on one statement that the customer pays by check, bank transfer, ACH, wire, Zelle or, if you use Stripe, by card online. It is the way construction companies and property managers expect to be billed.

Customers created as "Commercial" or "Broker" are billed on account from the start. A Contractor, Commercial or Broker customer that already exists can be moved to account with the "Bill on account" button in the customer drawer. Residential customers are always billed per order.

Every account has its own billing schedule ("Every week", "Every two weeks", "Every month" or "Every N days"), payment terms, an account status and an optional credit limit, and can carry job sites (each with its own delivery address, contact, gate code and PO), negotiated prices by size, and documents such as the signed service agreement.

Orders for an account customer never get a payment link, a per-order SMS or email invoice, or a payment reminder. In Order History they show as "Unpaid" with a short line like "Account · due Oct 31", and they count in your Unpaid totals, because the work is done and the money is still to come. You collect them through the statement, and you record the payment on the account when it arrives.

Frequently asked questions

Does billing on account cost anything?

No. Commercial accounts are part of Dumpster Controls at no extra cost. A statement paid by check, transfer, ACH, wire or Zelle outside the app moves no money through the platform, so no card fee applies. Only a statement paid by card online goes through Stripe, with the usual card processing fee.

Which customers can be billed on account?

Customers created as "Commercial" or "Broker" start on account. An existing Contractor, Commercial or Broker customer can be moved with "Bill on account" in the customer drawer. Residential customers are always billed per order.

Why does an account order show "Unpaid" before its due date?

Because the money has not arrived yet. The order counts in your Unpaid totals so you always know what you are owed. The line under "Unpaid" tells you when it is due, and hovering it shows which statement it goes on. Do not charge it on its own: it will be charged with the customer's other orders on the statement.

When is the statement created?

On the morning after the billing day, from about 6 AM in your company's time zone, the app opens the statement with everything delivered through the billing day. With "Send the statement automatically at close" off (the default) it waits as a draft for someone on your team to review and send it. With it on, it is closed and emailed right away. You can also close a statement at any time with "Close statement now".

What do I need before closing the first statement?

Fill in "Remit to (commercial accounts)" in Account Center, Company tab. It tells the customer where to mail the check or send the transfer, and statements cannot be closed until the remit to name is filled in.

Is there a customer portal or a PDF attached to the statement email?

Not yet. The statement email has a "View and download statement" button that opens the statement page, and each invoice number links to its own page. There are no automatic statement reminders either: to remind a customer, use "Send" on the statement again.

Can I move an account customer back to per-order billing?

Not from the app today. Open a support ticket if you need it.
