A 30-yard can costs more than most of the tools a hauling company owns, and it spends its life somewhere the owner cannot see: a driveway in the next county, a job site that changed contractors, the back corner of the yard under a tarp. Roll-off container software gives each of those cans a serial number and a status, and moves the status every time a driver touches it, so the question "how many twenties do we have free on Thursday" has an answer that does not depend on anyone's memory. Sizes first, then every physical can

Registration takes one wizard per size. You choose the yardage, say how many you own, upload a photo, and set the prices for 24 hours, 3, 7, 14 and 30 days plus the additional daily charge, the included tonnage and the per-ton overage, and any extra fees. Those numbers feed online booking, new orders and invoices from that moment, so a price change is made once.

Under each size, the units are created automatically with sequential serials in the pattern yards-number: 20YD-01 through 20YD-05 for five twenties. Each unit is a row with Serial #, Status, Condition and Notes. You can rename one serial with the pencil icon, or use Renumber All to give a whole size a clean sequence after years of odd labels. A plus and minus stepper on the size row adjusts the count when you buy or sell cans, and a QR icon next to any serial prints a sticker with the serial in large type and the code the driver scans.

The cycle every container repeats

The Operations page runs the day in three waiting states that match what happens on the street: Waiting Delivery (an empty can needs to go out), Waiting Pickup (the can is at the customer) and Waiting Landfill (the full can needs disposal). Each has its own tab with search, filters, CSV export and a drawer where the office assigns a driver, edits a date or confirms a step by hand when a driver forgot. A fourth section, Stored Full Dumpsters, holds the cans that came back full and did not reach the landfill that day.

Two details in that table are the ones haulers ask about. The first is the pickup guard: the pickup must collect the same unit that was delivered, and if a driver scans a different can the app answers "Wrong unit" and shows the expected serial. The second is the Late status: it is computed from the date, never set by hand, so a can whose pickup date passed turns red on the Pickups tab and orange on the map without anyone remembering to flag it.

People search for "roll-off container tracking software" when they want the same record read from the other end: not "what state is this can in" but "which cans are sitting idle". The units list answers it directly. Every row whose status shows the unit as free and carries no order number is a can earning nothing, and if the 30-yard list shows six rows free on a Tuesday in season, that is the report. Nothing has to be exported to see it, though the Operations tabs export to CSV when you want it in a spreadsheet.

The "dumpster tracking" phrasing usually means location, and it is worth being exact. Containers carry no GPS device; a container's position is the delivery address of the order it is bound to, confirmed by the GPS stamp on the driver's drop photo. Trucks are the part that moves live on the map, through the driver's phone while a route is running, refreshed about every 30 seconds. Box tracking software

Haulers who call their cans "boxes" search for box tracking software, and the record is the same. What the box record adds beyond location is history and cost. On a dump run the driver photographs the scale receipt, the app reads the net weight and the total off it, and both land on the order, which is how the disposal cost of one box on one job reaches the Orders P&L page without anyone typing it. Condition and Notes on the unit row hold what the yard knows about the can (door hinge, floor patch, the customer who dented it), and a unit in use cannot be deleted: the app answers "Cannot remove, the unit is currently in use" until its order is completed or reassigned.

What the container record connects to

Every state change on a container is an event a driver made in the roll-off driver app, so the record is only as good as the app in the cab, which is why the unit picker sits inside the delivery flow rather than in a separate screen; the app's full feature list, GPS included, is at dumpster driver app. Dispatch reads the same states on its board: a truck is marked loaded from the pickup until the landfill run or the storage drop completes, and the route map draws that leg solid, and an empty leg dashed.
