    Trucks & Fleet

Keep every truck's paperwork, photos, mileage, and maintenance in one place, and watch the whole fleet move on a live map.

The "Trucks" page ("Manage your fleet, documents, and usage history") is your fleet registry. Four counters sit at the top: "Total Trucks", "Missing Documents", "Maintenance", and "Inactive". Below them, the table lists every truck with its model, plate, VIN, year, a "Reg / Ins / Odo" document checklist, and a status badge ("Active", "Maintenance", or "Inactive"). Search and filters make it easy to spot the truck whose insurance file is still missing.

Each truck has its own detail page with four tabs: "Overview", "Documents", "Photos", and "Usage". Documents cover "Registration", "Insurance", and "Odometer" by default, and you can attach any extra file with "Add Document" (a DOT permit, for example). Photos cover the four sides of the truck. The "Usage" tab adds an "Oil Change Reminder", a "Maintenance" log with a "Post to Finances" shortcut, a "Monthly Mileage" chart, and a "Driver Usage Log".

Live tracking needs no extra hardware. Truck positions come from your drivers' phones: when a driver is signed in to the Dumpster Controls mobile app with location allowed, their position is written to the map. The dashboard map shows a "Live Fleet View" badge and a "Drivers" layer with truck-shaped pins, refreshed about every 30 seconds, and the Dispatch route map shows the same live marker while a driver runs their route.

    Frequently asked questions

How does my truck's position get on the map without a GPS device?

Positions come from the driver's phone, not from hardware in the truck. A driver signed in to the Dumpster Controls mobile app who has allowed location sharing appears on the map as a truck-shaped pin. If a truck never shows up, its driver is either not using the mobile app or has location permission turned off on the phone.

What do the "Reg", "Ins", and "Odo" chips on the trucks list mean?

They are the three default documents: "Registration", "Insurance", and "Odometer". A green chip means the file is uploaded; an amber chip means it is missing. The "Missing Documents" counter at the top counts trucks that are missing at least one of the three, and the "Documents" filter can isolate them ("Missing Any", "Missing Registration", "Missing Insurance", or "Missing Odometer").

Can I store other documents besides registration, insurance, and odometer?

Yes. On the truck's "Documents" tab, click "Add Document", type a name (the placeholder suggests "Document name (e.g. DOT Permit)"), and upload the file. Custom documents appear in the same list and can be viewed, replaced, or removed later.

Where does the truck's mileage number come from?

The "Mileage" shown on the truck's "Overview" tab is the truck's current reading. You set it with the "Current Mileage" field when adding or editing the truck, and odometer readings recorded by drivers who use the truck also appear in the "Driver Usage Log" on the "Usage" tab. The "Oil Change Reminder" and "Maintenance" cards use this mileage to tell you when service is due.

What happens when I delete a truck?

The truck is removed from your list immediately, with a "Truck deleted" toast. There is no confirmation step on the delete action, and no restore button, so double-check before using "Delete" or the bulk "Delete Selected" bar.
