A fair comparison of two vendors, from their own pages, with the URL and the date on every line. Where Docket wins, where DRS wins, and where Dumpster Controls fits at $0.

DRS publishes three prices, $79.95 without routing, $195.95 up to 20 cans and $279.95 above, and states an onboarding of up to 30 days. Docket publishes no software price at all, only its card rates (3.0% or 2.8% + 30c, ACH 1%) and SMS allowances, and sells through a demo. On features, Docket has AI route creation in production today (IronRouteAI) and, since March 2026, front-load and residential routes; DRS lists AI routing only on its announced V2. DRS's own comparison page against Docket concedes one line outright: "Customer portal: DRS: No / Docket: Yes". Both integrate QuickBooks Online, Docket with manual sync buttons, DRS on every plan except Launch. Both driver apps were updated in the summer of 2026. Neither publishes API documentation. Dumpster Controls is the free third option, near the end of the page.

How to read this page: every claim about Docket or DRS links to the page it came from and shows the date we read it. "Not found" means we looked on that date at the URLs listed and did not find it, which is not proof that a capability does not exist. Prices are quoted in the vendor's own words. The third column is ours. Its facts are checkable without an account: the pricing page, the public manual, the App Store listing and the developer documentation are all linked from each cell.

Where Docket wins

AI routing is in production. IronRouteAI shipped publicly at the end of 2025 after about a year in beta with over 100 customers, and weighs dump fees, materials, bin sizes, distance, fuel, driver wages and overtime. DRS shows "AI Routing" on its V2 page, which on 2026-08-23 carried an early-access banner and no date.

A customer portal, by DRS's own admission. The DRS comparison page against Docket lists "Customer portal: DRS: No / Docket: Yes". For a company whose contractors want to see and pay their own invoices, that line decides it.

More than roll-off. Docket Waste Software, since 2026-03-02, covers commercial front-load and residential trash routes alongside roll-off and junk removal. DRS is a roll-off and dumpster product.

Online ordering with zip-code pricing. DocketShop lets a customer pick a dumpster, drop-off location, date and time, accept terms and pay, with automatic zip-code pricing and material selection. DRS offers online booking 24/7 with real-time availability; its knowledge base says DRS does not allow iframes, so embedding follows their WordPress route.

The card rate is printed. Docket publishes 3.0% + 30c on Grow and 2.8% + 30c on Pro, ACH at 1%. DRS routes payments through DRSPay and does not publish the rate. Docket also lists Samsara, Verizon Connect, Mailchimp and Dumpsters.com as plan rows, and publishes release notes on its support site.

Where DRS wins

The price is public. $79.95, $195.95 or $279.95 a month, tiered by container count and not by user, with web design and SEO as separately priced add-ons. Docket asks you to "schedule a personalized demo" to see any number. For a buyer who wants to compare on a spreadsheet before talking to a salesperson, only one of the two can be put on the spreadsheet.

The onboarding timeline is public too: "DRS onboarding takes up to 30 days, with many operators transitioning to our platform in less than a week." Docket's site does not state one.

Billing configuration for commercial accounts. Nine payment terms, per-customer pricing, travel fees by zone, mile, city or zip, availability rule sets, batch and combined invoicing, all documented in an 86-article public knowledge base. Docket's plan rows say "Streamlined Billing" and account statements were added in December 2025.

The driver app takes payment and signatures. DRS documents clock in and out, tonnage, serial numbers, card payment with a DynaFlex II Go reader, contract signature, checklists and photos. Docket's driver app is documented for turn-by-turn navigation and drop-off photos, with a customer-facing live map.

A cheaper entry for the smallest operations. $79.95 a month for booking, invoicing and reporting, without routing or QuickBooks. Docket's smallest plan, Grow, has no published price and includes a website package and 500 texts a month.

Where the table does not settle it

Dispatch boards, driver apps, container tracking, online ordering and invoicing exist on both products and, by their own descriptions, work. A checkbox does not say whether the implementation is good on a Tuesday with two trucks down. The app stores give a small signal: Docket's iOS app has 30 ratings and DRS's has 10, both tiny samples, so we quote the counts and draw no conclusion from them. The only reliable test is a week of your real orders on each.

Two things we deliberately do not claim about either vendor: how their interfaces feel, because that is opinion, and whether a capability we did not find exists internally, because absence from a website is not absence from a product. Neither vendor is in any sense abandoned: both publish current pages and sell actively as of the dates in the sources below.

Where Dumpster Controls fits

Dumpster Controls costs $0 per month for any fleet size, with no order, user, truck or feature limit; the company earns only when a customer pays by card, 2.99% + $3.99 per transaction on the free plan or 2.99% + $0.30 on the optional $169 per month Unlimited plan, and cash or check orders carry no fee. That is the whole pricing page. Against Docket at Not computable, price not published a year and DRS at $959.40, $2,351.40 or $3,359.40, the software line of the budget goes to zero, and the card line depends on how your customers pay, so compare that line too.

Everything else about it can be checked before you sign up, which is the standard this page holds the other two vendors to. Signup is self-serve: name, email and password, no card and no demo, documented in the public manual, and the whole app runs in English, Spanish or Portuguese, chosen per user. Canadian companies run in Canadian dollars on their own Canadian Stripe account, with a fee of 0.5% + C$2.00 per card transaction on top of Stripe's rate, per the Canada guide. There is a public REST API with an OpenAPI specification at /developers and signed webhooks, capped on the free plan at 10 minutes of API time and 200 leads per day. The landfill database covers 2,916 facilities with tipping fees and is published as open data. And the Dumpster Net Hub lets hauling companies pass whole jobs to each other with no listing fee and no percentage cut.

For a company running its own roll-off or junk removal trucks, that is why Dumpster Controls is the pick over both: the software line goes to zero and nothing sits behind a higher tier. Tresha, the built-in assistant, creates orders and completes deliveries, pickups and landfill runs by chat or voice, behind a confirmation card, on the free plan. A Model Context Protocol (MCP) server at mcp.dumpstercontrols.io/mcp connects the account to Claude on the web, desktop and phone, open to every company, with a ChatGPT app in preparation, as documented at /developers/mcp; none of the other dumpster platforms we track publishes an MCP server (checked 2026-09-28). Support is the same on every plan, with no paid tier: tickets from inside the app at any hour, answered within 24 hours, a public manual of 326 articles, and Tresha around the clock. It is built for roll-off, junk removal and scrap metal, the business this page is written for.
