iCANS publishes its price, $99 or $159 a month flat with unlimited drivers and a 7-day trial you start yourself. CurbWaste publishes no price, its /pricing page returns an authorization error, and the only figure in print is from Waste Dive (2025-10-22): an initiation fee plus $250 to $300 per driver per month for small haulers. At five drivers that is $15,000 to $18,000 a year against $1,188 to $1,908. What the money buys differs: CurbWaste covers roll-off, front-load and residential routes with a customer portal with login, per-customer pricing and CurbPOS for scales; iCANS is roll-off and junk removal with AI features advertised as available and a two-way QuickBooks Online sync.

Both have a driver app in both stores with small rating counts: iCANS Driver at version 0.7.4 with 4 ratings; Curbwaste Driver at version 3.0.0 with 13 ratings (3.5). Neither publishes API documentation. iCANS reports 400+ haulers; CurbWaste has raised $50 million, reports about 150 haulers, and describes AI as a funding goal for business intelligence. Dumpster Controls is the free third option, near the end.

Where iCANS wins

A flat price with no per-driver line. iCANS costs $99 or $159 a month with unlimited drivers and orders; the CurbWaste figure reported by Waste Dive is $250 to $300 per driver per month plus an initiation fee, and CurbWaste itself publishes nothing. For a five-driver company the published iCANS Plus plan is $1,908 a year; the reported CurbWaste figure is $15,000 to $18,000.

You can start without a call: a 7-day trial with no card, limited to Base features, that pauses instead of billing. CurbWaste's call to action is Get Demo, and Capterra lists no free trial.

AI is advertised as available today: an assistant called The New Guy, AI-assisted route building and, on Plus, an AI Review Filter. CurbWaste's Series B release describes machine learning tools as a use of the new funding, and we found no AI feature on its product pages on 2026-08-23.

QuickBooks runs both ways, in writing: clients, invoices, payments, refunds, voids and tax rates. CurbWaste names QuickBooks on its billing page and does not publish the direction of the sync.

Guided onboarding is part of the plan: setup, customer and inventory imports, QuickBooks configuration and training are included at $99 or $159. CurbWaste's onboarding was not covered by our research.

Where CurbWaste wins

The customer portal is deeper on paper. CurbWaste's portal page describes a unique login per customer, real-time statements, payment by ACH or card and custom pricing saved on the account (re-read 2026-09-07). iCANS lists a customer portal for commercial accounts on both plans without that detail.

Recurring routes and three service lines. Route Management covers recurring routes with frequencies, stop sequence and an edit audit trail, for roll-off, commercial front-load and residential curbside. iCANS is built for roll-off and junk removal.

Scales and certification. CurbPOS is a point of sale for transfer stations that works with 99% of scales by their description and produces LEED and RCI reporting; CurbWaste is the exclusive RCI operational platform since 2026-02-24. iCANS's published integrations are QuickBooks Online, Tiger Payment Solutions and website integration.

Drivers bill from the field and customers get a live ETA: trip charges, overweights, overloads and bulk fees go onto the invoice from the driver app, and the inventory page publishes a live ETA to the customer. iCANS's pricing page lists invoices and payments on both plans; driver-side billing was not covered by our research.

Size, in public numbers: $50 million raised, a $28 million Series B on 2025-10-22, about 150 haulers in some 40 states, fleets of 5 to 200 vehicles, 55 to 60 employees, all from trade press. iCANS reports 400+ haulers and 2,500% growth in its own press release. Both sets of numbers are the companies' own.

Where the table does not settle it

Dispatch boards, driver apps, container tracking, online ordering and invoicing exist on both products and, by their own descriptions, work. A checkbox does not say whether the implementation is good on a Tuesday with two trucks down. The app stores give a small signal: iCANS's iOS app has 4 ratings and CurbWaste's has 12, both tiny samples, so we quote the counts and draw no conclusion from them. The only reliable test is a week of your real orders on each.

Two things we deliberately do not claim about either vendor: how their interfaces feel, because that is opinion, and whether a capability we did not find exists internally, because absence from a website is not absence from a product. Neither vendor is in any sense abandoned: both publish current pages and sell actively as of the dates in the sources below.

Where Dumpster Controls fits

Dumpster Controls costs $0 per month for any fleet size, with no order, user, truck or feature limit; the company earns only when a customer pays by card, 2.99% + $3.99 per transaction on the free plan or 2.99% + $0.30 on the optional $169 per month Unlimited plan, and cash or check orders carry no fee. That is the whole pricing page. Against iCANS at $1,188 to $1,908 a year and CurbWaste at Not computable from their site; $15,000 to $18,000 for five drivers at the Waste Dive figure, before the initiation fee, the software line of the budget goes to zero, and the card line depends on how your customers pay, so compare that line too.

Everything else about it can be checked before you sign up, which is the standard this page holds the other two vendors to. Signup is self-serve: name, email and password, no card and no demo, documented in the public manual, and the whole app runs in English, Spanish or Portuguese, chosen per user. Canadian companies run in Canadian dollars on their own Canadian Stripe account, with a fee of 0.5% + C$2.00 per card transaction on top of Stripe's rate, per the Canada guide. There is a public REST API with an OpenAPI specification at /developers and signed webhooks, capped on the free plan at 10 minutes of API time and 200 leads per day. The landfill database covers 2,916 facilities with tipping fees and is published as open data. And the Dumpster Net Hub lets hauling companies pass whole jobs to each other with no listing fee and no percentage cut.

For a company running its own roll-off or junk removal trucks, that is why Dumpster Controls is the pick over both: the software line goes to zero and nothing sits behind a higher tier. Tresha, the built-in assistant, creates orders and completes deliveries, pickups and landfill runs by chat or voice, behind a confirmation card, on the free plan. A Model Context Protocol (MCP) server at mcp.dumpstercontrols.io/mcp connects the account to Claude on the web, desktop and phone, open to every company, with a ChatGPT app in preparation, as documented at /developers/mcp; none of the other dumpster platforms we track publishes an MCP server (checked 2026-09-28). Support is the same on every plan, with no paid tier: tickets from inside the app at any hour, answered within 24 hours, a public manual of 326 articles, and Tresha around the clock. It is built for roll-off, junk removal and scrap metal, the business this page is written for.
