At the entry level these two cost the same, $99 a month flat with unlimited drivers, and both were founded by people who run dumpster companies: Ricardo Rivera of Junk It Plus at iCANS, Todd Atkinson of Pack Mule Dumpsters at Bin Boss. The differences start one line down. iCANS puts text notifications, deeper analytics and its AI Review Filter on a $159 Plus plan; Bin Boss lists text and email updates, a client portal and reporting in its single "Bin Boss Complete" plan. iCANS lets you start a 7-day trial yourself; Bin Boss sells through a free demo with no card and no contract.

On QuickBooks Online, iCANS documents a two-way sync and Bin Boss a real-time one-way push (Online only, no Desktop). On AI, iCANS has an assistant, AI-assisted routing and a review filter; Bin Boss has a customer-facing chatbot on your website and one-click route optimization. Neither publishes API documentation (checked 2026-08-24 and 2026-09-23). Dumpster Controls is the free third option, near the end.

Where iCANS wins

QuickBooks runs both ways. iCANS documents an automatic two-way sync with QuickBooks Online covering clients, invoices, payments, refunds, voids and tax rates. Bin Boss describes a real-time push from Bin Boss to QuickBooks: invoices, payments and customers go out, and its page says it does not support QuickBooks Desktop.

AI for the office, not only for the website. iCANS advertises an assistant (The New Guy), AI-assisted route building and, on Plus, an AI Review Filter for Google reviews. Bin Boss's AI is a sales chatbot that answers customer questions, recommends sizes and books on your site; its dispatch page describes one-click optimization with no AI mentioned.

You can try it without a call: a 7-day trial, no card, limited to Base features. Bin Boss's calls to action on the pages we read are a free demo with no card; we did not find a self-serve signup or trial.

Deeper analytics on Plus: utilization, profit and loss and landfill cost dashboards for $159. Bin Boss lists "Reporting & Data Exports" in its single plan without publishing that level of detail.

More self-reported traction, for what self-reported numbers are worth: iCANS publishes "400+ haulers" and "$39M+ processed"; Bin Boss shows "42 Google reviews". Neither is audited, and both are the vendor's own figures.

Where Bin Boss wins

Text notifications are in the $99 plan. Bin Boss's feature page describes automatic text and email updates when the driver is on the way, when the bin is dropped and when pickup is complete. On iCANS, custom text notifications start at $159 (Plus) and are capped at 1,000 a month. For a hauler whose customers live on texts, Bin Boss is $60 a month cheaper for that one feature.

Everything is one plan, month to month, in writing: "No contracts ever. Bin Boss is month-to-month." with "Unlimited Admins & Office Users" and "Unlimited Drivers Included". iCANS also has unlimited drivers and orders, and no contract, but splits features across two tiers.

The booking flow is specific about money: "Stripe-powered", with "full payment, deposit, or pay-on-delivery", "zip code-specific upcharges" and a "card saved on file for overages". iCANS publishes website integration for online orders and a customer portal without describing deposits or pay-on-delivery.

The driver app does dump weights, receipt uploads, automatic overage charges and clock in and out, per its feature page, and its iOS listing was updated on 2026-09-21. The iCANS iOS app was updated on 2026-08-20 and is at version 0.7.4.

A switch offer and website packages: a "$200 Account Credit" and a "Free Custom Website" for switchers, a template site at "$40 /mo" plus a "$99 Setup Fee", or a custom site for a "$399 one-time design fee" plus "$40/month". iCANS offers a 4-page site with $40 a month hosting.

Where the table does not settle it

Dispatch boards, driver apps, container tracking, online ordering and invoicing exist on both products and, by their own descriptions, work. A checkbox does not say whether the implementation is good on a Tuesday with two trucks down. The app stores give a small signal: iCANS's iOS app has 4 ratings and Bin Boss's has 0, both tiny samples, so we quote the counts and draw no conclusion from them. The only reliable test is a week of your real orders on each.

Two things we deliberately do not claim about either vendor: how their interfaces feel, because that is opinion, and whether a capability we did not find exists internally, because absence from a website is not absence from a product. Neither vendor is in any sense abandoned: both publish current pages and sell actively as of the dates in the sources below.

Where Dumpster Controls fits

Dumpster Controls costs $0 per month for any fleet size, with no order, user, truck or feature limit; the company earns only when a customer pays by card, 2.99% + $3.99 per transaction on the free plan or 2.99% + $0.30 on the optional $169 per month Unlimited plan, and cash or check orders carry no fee. That is the whole pricing page. Against iCANS at $1,188 to $1,908 a year and Bin Boss at $1,188, the software line of the budget goes to zero, and the card line depends on how your customers pay, so compare that line too.

Everything else about it can be checked before you sign up, which is the standard this page holds the other two vendors to. Signup is self-serve: name, email and password, no card and no demo, documented in the public manual, and the whole app runs in English, Spanish or Portuguese, chosen per user. Canadian companies run in Canadian dollars on their own Canadian Stripe account, with a fee of 0.5% + C$2.00 per card transaction on top of Stripe's rate, per the Canada guide. There is a public REST API with an OpenAPI specification at /developers and signed webhooks, capped on the free plan at 10 minutes of API time and 200 leads per day. The landfill database covers 2,916 facilities with tipping fees and is published as open data. And the Dumpster Net Hub lets hauling companies pass whole jobs to each other with no listing fee and no percentage cut.

For a company running its own roll-off or junk removal trucks, that is why Dumpster Controls is the pick over both: the software line goes to zero and nothing sits behind a higher tier. Tresha, the built-in assistant, creates orders and completes deliveries, pickups and landfill runs by chat or voice, behind a confirmation card, on the free plan. A Model Context Protocol (MCP) server at mcp.dumpstercontrols.io/mcp connects the account to Claude on the web, desktop and phone, open to every company, with a ChatGPT app in preparation, as documented at /developers/mcp; none of the other dumpster platforms we track publishes an MCP server (checked 2026-09-28). Support is the same on every plan, with no paid tier: tickets from inside the app at any hour, answered within 24 hours, a public manual of 326 articles, and Tresha around the clock. It is built for roll-off, junk removal and scrap metal, the business this page is written for.
