    Getting Started

Create your account, set up your company, and go from zero to your first order with a guided checklist that tracks real progress.

Dumpster Controls gets a new company running in a single sitting. You create an account with just your name, email, and password, confirm your email, and land on the dashboard. From there, two helpers walk you through everything: a welcome tour (the "Getting Started" wizard with steps for "Welcome", "Settings", "Inventory", "Orders", and "Go Online") and a setup checklist on the dashboard that reads "Your company is {pct}% ready" and fills a progress bar as you complete real steps.

The checklist tracks five concrete milestones: "Create your account", "Add your dumpster sizes and prices", "Add a truck", "Create your first order", and "Turn on online booking". Each pending step has a "Go" link that takes you straight to the right screen, and finishing a step fires a small confetti celebration. The card disappears on its own once you hit 100%, or you can hide it any time.

You own a booking site from day one. The checklist shows a card titled "Your booking site already exists" with "View my site" and "Copy link" buttons, so you can see and share your online storefront before you finish setup. To actually accept online orders you connect Stripe (the "Configure Payouts" tab, about 2 minutes) and flip your booking page to "LIVE".

Already operating on paper or spreadsheets? Two shortcuts skip the blank-slate feeling: "Want to see it working? Create a sample order" drops a clearly labeled DEMO order onto your dispatch board, and "Already have rentals out? Import your spreadsheet" brings your current rentals into the system in minutes.

    Frequently asked questions

Why do I see a "Complete your company setup" banner or a "Finish your setup" popup?

Some features stay locked until your company profile has the basics. The banner says "Finish setting up your company profile to unlock all features. It only takes 10 seconds." Click "Complete Setup" to open the "Company" tab in the Account Center, fill in your "Company Name", and click "Save Company". That single save unlocks the gated features.

What does "Your company is {pct}% ready" actually measure?

Real progress, not clicks. The checklist checks your live data: whether dumpster sizes exist, whether a truck is registered, whether you have created at least one real order, and whether online booking is turned on. Creating your account counts as the first of five steps, so every new company starts at 20%.

Does the sample order mess up my real numbers?

No. The sample order's number starts with "DEMO-" and its customer is named "Demo Customer (sample)", so it is labeled on every screen. It never counts toward your setup progress, milestones, or reports, and you can delete it with one click: "Remove sample order".

I never received the confirmation email. What now?

After signing up you should see "Check your email to confirm your account!". If the email is missing, check spam first. Once you are logged in, an unverified account shows a banner reading "Please verify your email address. Check your inbox for the confirmation link." with a "Resend verification email" button.

Can I see the welcome tour again?

Yes. The tour opens automatically on your first visits (up to five times) until you finish it or check "Don't show again". While it is still available, a rocket icon titled "Setup Guide" sits in the top header; click it to reopen the tour any time.

Do I need my own website to take orders online?

No. Every company gets a hosted booking page at a link like https://dumpstercontrols.io/book?company=your-company. The checklist card "Your booking site already exists" explains it: "Customers pick a size, a date and pay by card. The order lands on your board by itself." You only need to connect Stripe and turn booking on.
