    Driver App

Run your route from your phone: see your stops in order, navigate with one tap, add proof photos, and slide to complete every delivery, pickup, and landfill run.

The Driver App is the driver's side of Dumpster Controls. It runs as a native app on iPhone and Android (search "Dumpster Controls" in the App Store or Google Play) and also works in a mobile browser. Four tabs sit at the bottom of every screen: "My Tasks", "Map", "Messages", and "Profile". Everything a dispatcher assigns on the Dispatch board lands here, in the exact order it should run.

"My Tasks" is the day list. A date strip lets you flip between days, summary cards count "Deliveries", "Pickups", and "Landfill" stops, and each task card shows its stop number, address, time window, customer, and notes. Tapping a card opens the task sheet, where the whole job happens: "On My Way" starts the trip with a live driving timer, "I've Arrived" marks you on site, photos document the work, and the "Slide to complete" control finishes the stop with a confetti celebration.

The "Map" tab draws your day on Google Maps: numbered pins for every stop, a route line through the remaining work, your live position, teammates, the company HQ, and nearby landfills with star ratings. "Truck mode" keeps the screen awake, follows your GPS, and pins a "Next task" card with a one-tap "Go" button that opens turn-by-turn navigation in Google Maps.

Around the route, the app covers the rest of a driver's day: chat with the office in "Messages", landfill runs with a "Receipt scan" that reads the net weight and cost off the receipt photo, community landfill reviews, swap orders with linked "SWAP OUT" and "SWAP IN" tasks, and a "Profile" area for personal info, permissions, documents, and theme. An "Ask Tresha" entry in the menu opens the built-in assistant.

    Frequently asked questions

How do drivers get the app?

The app is called "Dumpster Controls" on both stores: the Apple App Store for iPhone and Google Play for Android. The page at /driver/get-app shows a "Download the app" button on phones and QR codes for both stores on desktop, plus the email to sign in with. Drivers who prefer the browser can tap "Continue in the browser instead" and use the same screens on the web.

Do drivers get notified when work is assigned?

Yes. Assigning a task from Dispatch sends a push notification titled "Task Assigned" with the address to the driver's phone, and order tasks also send an SMS. In the app, Settings lists a "Notifications" permission described as "Required for new jobs, route changes, and dispatcher messages"; keep it allowed so nothing is missed.

Why does the app ask for background location?

The Settings screen lists "Background Location" as "Required for automatic route tracking and ETA optimization". It is what lets dispatchers see the truck moving live on the Dispatch map and gives customers accurate arrival estimates. The hint under the permission says to enable "Always Allow" in device settings.

    Why can't I start a landfill task?

Landfill runs need a destination first. The task sheet shows "Select a landfill destination before starting this task." until you pick one in the "Select Landfill Destination" card. The list is sorted with the closest landfills first, so the top result is usually the right one.

What is the grayed out "Landfill (Next)" card in my list?

It is a preview, labeled "Auto-created after Pickup". When your pickup completes, the system creates the real landfill task for that full dumpster and the app opens it for you. Until then the card is just a reminder of what comes next and cannot be opened.

Can I complete a task without a photo?

Yes, but the app nudges you not to. If no photo is attached, the slide control shows "No photo attached: slide to complete anyway". Photos are your proof of work, so add the delivery or pickup photo whenever possible. The one hard requirement is on landfill runs: the receipt info must be filled in before the task can complete.
